Resource is brought to you by the Alberta Energy Regulator.
Alberta - October 16, 2016

The AER is responsible for ensuring that the “upstream” pipelines—those which transport oil and gas from wells and facilities to “downstream” parties, such as refiners and utilities—that crisscross Alberta are operating safely.

These add up to over 431 000 kilometres of pipeline. Stretched out, Alberta’s pipelines would overtake the moon by some 47 000 km.

It should be noted that the AER doesn’t regulate pipelines that cross provincial or international borders.
